We Did It! Aflac NI’s 3 Peaks Challenge Raises over £23,000 for the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity

What happens when care meets determination? Magic - and a lot of muddy boots!

During National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, 53 of our brave (and slightly nervous) Aflac Northern Ireland employees swapped laptops for hiking boots - and in one case Adidas Sambas - to take on the Three Peaks Challenge across the stunning Mourne Mountains.

Together, we conquered Slieve Binnian, Slieve Commedagh, and Slieve Donard - covering miles of steep climbs, rocky descents, and every type of weather Northern Ireland could throw at us (sometimes all within an hour!)

From hiking pros who made it look effortless, to first-timers wondering what they’d signed up for, the day was filled with banter, encouragement, a few struggles, and plenty of laughs. Training walks paid off, teammates helped each other through the tough bits, and the feeling of crossing that final finish line after nearly 8 hours on the go was pure joy.

And the result?
💰 Over £23,000 raised for our incredible charity partner, The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity (CCUC) — more than double our original goal of £10,000!

💬 From Sarah Milliken, Head of Talent and Culture

“Care is at Aflac’s core, particularly when it comes to supporting children and families affected by cancer and blood disorders. Through our longstanding collaboration with CCUC, we’re able to be there for families during a difficult time. We set out to raise £10,000, but thanks to the enthusiasm and generosity of our team, we more than doubled that goal - and every pound will make a real difference to children and families across Northern Ireland.”

Each year, more than 60 children in Northern Ireland are diagnosed with cancer or blood disorders, and every one of them spends time at the Children’s Cancer and Haematology Unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

Funds from our Three Peaks Challenge will go directly toward life-changing resources - from new equipment to staff training and development, helping to make a real difference to young patients and their families.

This milestone marks five incredible years of partnership with CCUC. Since 2020, Aflac NI has:

  • Raised £100,000

  • Delivered over 100 My Special Aflac Ducks® to children receiving care

  • Built an ongoing culture of care and giving back to our community.

So to everyone who climbed, cheered, donated, or powered through all four seasons in one day - a HUGE thank you!!
You’ve once again shown what makes Aflac NI so special: our care, camaraderie, and unstoppable spirit!
